Richard T. Williams II is the anointed, visionary leader whom God has sent to lead Aldersgate UMC – Montgomery, AL. At Aldersgate, Richard oversees 35 ministries in the areas of Discipleship and Missions. Richard weekly leads the contemporary worship service. Prior to Aldersgate, Richard served St. Mark AME – Thomasville, GA and St. Peter AME – Camilla, GA. Through his bold, principled leadership, St. Mark and St. Peter grew spirituality and in membership.
Williams is guiding the church through a period of transition and transformation. Williams is from Moncks Corner, South Carolina. God blessed him with an amazing combination of diverse life experiences, which prepared him for his divine appointment at Aldersgate UMC.
His God-directed developmental path prepared him to handle the spiritual side of the church as well as the administrative and business sides. From stints in the corporate world as an Operations Coordinator at Duke University, to a Site Director at YouthWorks, to Sales with Metro PCS, God’s invisible hand was gently guiding and preparing him. From learning to travel and serve others, to serving as 7th episcopal YPD president, to traveling with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, God’s invisible hand again was constantly guiding this leader, who is also mission minded and knows that it is yet to appear on what God is doing.
Educationally, Williams earned a Bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, with a major Psychology (Cum Laude). While at Morehouse, he was a Bonner Scholar and served as the Senior Bonner intern. He holds a Master of Divinity from Turner Theological Seminary at ITC. While at ITC, he has served as the Junior Class President and was on the board of Trustees as The Student Trustee. In spite of all of Williams’ accomplishments, he believes that the gospel should be heard to all those who have ears.
