“It was a memorable day for AoP,” said outgoing AoP President Dwight A. Moody. “I attended a lunch in St Louis, hosted by the Aquinas Institute, then traveled to Houston for a dinner at Church Without Walls. What a day!”

More than 240 pre-registered for one of the ten events. Not all who signed-up showed up, but some who showed up had not signed up! Like a 16 year old aspiring preacher, who came to the New York City luncheon, hosted by MMBB, to be welcomed by Everett McCorvey, director of the National Chorale, and Ernest Brooks, incoming president of the AoP.

Ernest Brooks started the day as the featured preacher in Atlanta, at a breakfast hosted by the Airport Hilton Hotel, site of the upcoming 2018 National Festival of Young Preachers. “It was a powerful sermon, but short,” reported Tyler Best, AoP ’12, Director of Communications.

Best left Atlanta for Indianapolis for the evening gathering hosted by Center for Congregations.

Thanks to other hosts: Wesley Seminary in DC, Simmons College in Louisville, Belmont University in Nashville, and St Michaels Episcopal Church in Lexington.

AoP Day commemorates the occasion on June 23, 2008, when founder Dwight A. Moody entered an agreement with the Lilly Endowment of Indianapolis to launch an initiative for young people discerning a call to gospel preaching.

More than 200 Young Preachers, mentors, pastors, and friends will gather on Friday, June 23rd to celebrate the Academy of Preachers and our grand movement to “identify, network, support, and inspire young people in their call to gospel preaching.”
