One church in Charlestown, Indiana has registered four young preachers for the Festival of Young Preachers. The Festival will be held January 7-9, 2010, in Louisville, Kentucky. Registrations will be received up through Thursday, October 14.
“If there was not an age restriction,” said pastor and mentor David Flucke of Community Presbyterian Church, “we could send 27. That is how many people are preparing for preaching and pastoral ministry in our church.”
The four include: Colt Barker, a 15-year-old student at Charlestown High School; Christopher Ludwig, who has earned two degrees in business and accounting; and Garrett Schindler and Aaron Flucke, students at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville.
I have two more in the age range of the Academy,” pastor Flucke said, referring to the stated 16-28 demographics targeted by the Academy of Preachers, the sponsor of the Festival. “I am trying to get at least one of them to register.”
Better hurry, is the word to pastor Flucke, and to all others considering the Festival. The last day to send registration is Thursday, October 15. The fax number is on the registration form elsewhere on this website.
To date, 91 young preachers have registered. Our goal is 100, and we can accommodate 104. All the young preachers will be placed in a Preaching Circle of 12-13 young preachers. All in a given Circle will hear each other preach and meet twice during the Festival to dialogue about the sermons being preached.
The Festival will be held at St. Matthews Baptist Church and is free and open to the public. The evening sessions on Thursday and Friday, January 7-8, will be public worship services featuring music, scripture, testimony, offering, and preaching.
