On Friday, October 16, all young preachers registered for the Festival of Young Preachers will be sent via email a packet of information about the Festival.
As of today–Wednesday–there are 91 young preachers registered, with a few more planning to submit paperwork in the next 46 hours. We are making plans for 94 young preachers delivering sermons during the 3 days in January.
The information packet will contain the following:
* a cover letter from Dwight A. Moody, Executive Director of the Academy of Preachers
* a schedule of the three-day event, showing when each person is to preach
* a list of the 8 groups of young preachers, what we call Preaching Circles
* a list of Festival sermon topics and texts to guide the young preachers in preparation
* a page of sermon guidelines addressing everything from attire to sermon publication
* an announcement about the three scholarship prizes to be presented at the Festival
* a permission sheet allowing the Academy to post pictures and festival information on the web site
The permission sheet needs to be electronically signed and returned, along with two other things: a picture suitable for use in the festival program and a statement completing this phrase: “I preach . . . .” These materials need to be returned within two weeks, or by November 1.
In the week following this email mailing, members of the Young Preachers Leadership Team will contact the young preachers assigned to his or her Preaching Circle. The purpose of this contact is to ensure that everybody received the email packet and to assist everybody in responding in a timely way.
Questions may be addressed to Dr. Moody at dwightamoody@gmail or leehuckleberry@bellsouth.net Do not hesitate to clear up any confusion that may exist. We want this Festival to be a wonderfully inspirational event for all of us: to the glory of God and for the common good.
