We now have 207 Fans on our Facebook site (Academy of Preachers), thanks to the efforts of a recent graduate of McAfee Divinity School in Atlanta. “I sent an ‘invitation to join’ the Academy,” she wrote to me, “to about fifty of my friends, trying to help you get to your threshold number.” It worked; now I am encouraging her to register for the Festival in January.
While we are in Preaching Camp next week, David Thomas is managing an exhibit for the Academy at the annual meeting of the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church. This is our first such effort and I am delighted that David suggested this. He is a member of our Board of Advisors but is unable to attend our Board meeting next Friday because of the Conference; same with Board member Tom Smith.
I spoke yesterday with Peter Wallace. He is the manager and host of the web site, Day1. This website and radio ministry is the continuation of the older program The Protestant Hour. Peter and I discussed how his ministry and the Academy of Preachers might form a partnership to promote young preachers. And later in the day I met with Baptist pastor Brad King. He is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree and wishes to collaborate with the Academy for his doctoral project. This is very good news. Meet Brad in a short video on the Facebook site.
And last: the Henryville Leader published this last week a nice article about the Preaching Camp. Thanks to writer Janna Ross, a member of Clarksville’s Howard Park Christian Church, where Academy Senior Consultant Lee Huckleberry is pastor. A link to that article will be posted on the Facebook site. (And the word is that the Western Recorder, state paper of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, will publish an article this coming week.)
Good things are happening. Praise God.
