Planners of the Festival of Young Preachers are delighted to announce that the Mid Kentucky Chorus at St. Catharine will be a featured choir on Friday night, January 8, 2010. “We are honored and delighted to sing for the Festival next January,” said Director Teresa Tedder, in accepting the invitation.
The Chorus is an eighty-voice community choir sponsored by St. Catharine College in Springfield, Kentucky. Ms. Tedder serves as Artist-in-Residence and Professor of Music at the College and is Director of the Chorus. She is also a well-know composer and pianist, frequently performing both solo and duets programs, the latter with Joanna Ximenes, the Louisville-based pianist who serves as accompanist for the Chorus.
The Mid-Kentucky Chorus at St. Catharine most recently performed five commissioned concerts around the Commonwealth to celebrate the bi-centennial of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Louisville. The Concerts, accompanied by string ensemble, featured music from the broad spectrum of Kentucky religious history, including some specially arranged by Ms. Tedder.
The Chorus will present a 30-minute concert at the Festival, and will also lead the public congregation in the service of worship. As previously announced, the preacher for the evening will be the noted African American pastor of The Riverside Church in New York City, Dr. Brad Braxton. The service will also include congregational singing, scripture reading, prayer, presentation of the Young Preachers, and an offering. The public will be invited.
